We are JazzForDiscovery, a group of high schoolers based in the greater Indianapolis area. Our goal is to raise money for scientific discovery through the playing of Jazz. We hope our music can inspire you to give. We partner with N1C Collaborative, a Boston based nonprofit organization as the recipient of donations for biomedical research.
Hi I am Derek Ai, a sophomore at Park Tudor High School. I play the Alto Sax and also play the piano. I founded this organization because of my love for jazz as well as my love for sciences. I have always found STEM topics interesting ever since I was little. This project was the perfect way to combine my interests in STEM and music. Besides playing music, I play baseball and compete in science bowl.
I am currently a sophomore that has played the alto saxophone for six years. When I was younger, I didn’t have much musical interest, and I was attracted towards other subjects in the fine arts. When first starting my musical journey in middle school, I didn’t expect myself to enjoy playing an instrument as I do today. Playing and being a part of the band has been one of my greatest joys, and I hope to expand my talent further throughout my high school career.
I’m currently a junior and have been playing trumpet for 8 years. Growing up, I was exposed to all sorts of music and have since found it to be my favorite medium of reflection, inspiration, and creativity. When I was invited to play in this band I was thrilled to be able to practice and improvise in a student-centered group. Apart from playing, I also involve myself in robotics and competitive sport climbing.
I’m currently a junior and have been playing saxophones for six years. I have found enjoyment in playing instruments, including the alto and tenor saxophones. Partaking in this band has motivated me to strengthen my skills and work together with others in the form of music. Outside of playing instruments, I am dedicated in robotics, golf, and our school’s Computer Science Club.
I’m a junior and have played trumpet for 7 years and tenor saxophone for 3. The fine arts has always been my highest passion with performance being my greatest pride. My childhood was spent experiencing the joy of music and served as the exigence for making it part of my daily life. Besides trumpet, I compete in rowing and enjoy acting.
Hey! I’m Owen. I’m a current junior at Park Tudor, and I’ve played the classical guitar for 9 years. This is my first venture into jazz; I’ve previously performed only for the Indianapolis Society of the Classical Guitar. I also play the clarinet. I’m passionate about and compete on math, chemistry, and business. When I have the time, I enjoy reading, playing video games, and hanging out with friends; I’m also learning to draw.
Hi, I’m Gavin, a freshman attending Park Tudor High School. My main instrument is the piano, which I’ve played for eight years. I’ve also played clarinet in band for four years. My favorite subject is history, and I like to play racquet sports and spend time with my family in my free time.
I’m Henry, a junior at Park Tudor. I play the drums, which I have played for 7 years. I was originally a French horn player until I found percussion, which has been my passion ever since. Besides the drums, I regularly go to the gym with a personal trainer and am the head of the video crew in our technical theatre program.
Hi I’m Keshav, a sophomore attending Park Tudor High School. My main instrument is the electric bass, which I have a great passion for. I like to play tennis and lift weights in my free time. Another one of my extracurriculars is VEX robotics, which I am also very passionate about.
